The University of Miami has no provision for unexcused absences. Attendance is officially required of all students for every class session. Missed class periods and/or chronic lateness can affect your final grade.
That said, there are class periods during the semester when attendance is more crucial than others (specifically, while we are introducing EACH of the 3 learning modules, when quizzes are scheduled, and on critique/project due days). These absences, therefore, will be treated more severely than others.
Announcements are made the first hour of class--the second 2 hours are for completing student work. So...If you must schedule an appointment that conflicts with this course, do so toward the end of a class period (leave early BUT don't come late, in other words) and after the first 2 weeks of each new learning module.
If you do have a responsibility that conflicts with class be sure to let me know PRIOR to your absence by communicating with me via email.
If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to read the day's entry on the course website, borrow class notes on lecture material from a fellow student, review all ,missed Powerpoints and videos online, and make up any missed work. Check this home page for announcements regularly!
