Butler Center for Service and Leadership at UM is currently in search of a student graphic designer that can work within their office during the upcoming school year. The Butler Center coordinates a variety of co-curricular service and leadership opportunities for students and the graphic designer is an integral component of that process.

Butler Center for Service and Leadership Graphic Designer
Summary of Position: Designs various materials such as posters, palm cards, flyers, invitations, programs, giveaway items, brochures, banners, and other requested items for Butler Center events and Butler Center student organizations by request.
Duties: Graphic Designer must have experience with the conception of original design ideas. He/she will be responsible for the conception and creation of logos, layouts, mock-ups, etc. They must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a variety of different projects. The ideal candidate will need to be efficient and to work independently, He/she will create quality and timely graphic designs. This includes following verbal and written instructions from their supervisor(s), using a computer and software programs to produce materials for promotion and marketing. Perform any additional/miscellaneous duties (not included in job description) as requested by the management team within the scope of knowledge and ability. Handle any special projects as assigned.
Typical Hours / Flexibility: Graphic Designer generally works a regularly-scheduled shift. Schedules are built around classes and obligations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions: Graphic Designer must be able to move tables, chairs, boxes and perform other minor physical tasks requiring the ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
Special Skills / Requirements: Positive, optimistic, and committed students who demonstrate professionalism and are capable of providing a high level of quality service. Must be enthusiastic about learning, have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to handle a large amount of public contact, and work both independently and within a group environment. Must be tolerant and accepting of differing viewpoints, even tempered and handle frustration well. Possess the ability to effectively and clearly communicate (written and verbal) in English. Demonstrate good judgment in dealing with students, sensitive issues, and ability to discretely handle confidential matters. They must excel in organization and attention to details and follow through. The candidate must have computer and software skills, including: Microsoft Office; Adobe Photoshop; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe In Design and must be proficient in working with e-mail, including calendars. Position requires previous experience, education and/or ability will be taken into consideration.
Skills Learned in Position: Student will gain an understanding of time management and ability to evaluate, prioritize and complete multiple design projects in a fast-paced and demanding environment. Student will also learn and develop the skills and commitment necessary to make students more attractive to future employers and to be successful in their future as mature adults.
