UM has recently joined the list of nominating institutions for the Beinecke Scholarship Program Graduate Study in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences. The Beinecke Scholarship Program aims to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduated course of study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
Eligible students are juniors intending to pursue a master's or PhD in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, graduating between December 2014 and August 2015.
The University may nominate ONE student and the internal deadline is right around the corner onFebruary 3rd, 2014. If you are a junior level major in art please visit your advisor and ask for assistance to apply: this is a $34,000 opportunity. Any student who applies will need 3 letters of reference.
Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. There are no geographic restrictions on the use of the scholarship, and recipients are allowed to supplement the award with other scholarships, assistantships and research grants. Scholars are encouraged to begin graduated study as soon as possible following graduation from college, and must utilize all of the funding within five years of completion of undergraduate studies.
To be eligible a student must:
- Have demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement and personal promise during his or her undergraduate career.
- Be a college junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree during the 2013-2014 academic year. “Junior” means a student who plans to continue full-time undergraduate study and who expects to receive a baccalaureate degree between December 2014 and August 2015.
- Plan to enter a master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities or social sciences. (Students who plan to pursue graduate study in neuroscience should not apply)
- Have a documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during undergraduate years
The University of Miami nominatea one student to compete for the national scholarship. A selection will be held to identify the nominees whose applications are most likely to succeed in the national competition.
