File Formats & Turning in assignments

Students: for all assignments created in Adobe Creative Suite, please follow these format guidelines.

Preparing Your Electronic Files in Art 109

You are required to follow these guidelines before submitting any Practice or Project to me for evaluation in Art109:

Size: Never work smaller than 768 pixels x 1024 pixels at 240 dpi. A higher resolution (300) dpi or size is even preferred. (Generally, the larger the image (higher the resolution and proportions) the better your results and grade.

Format: While working on your image in CS6, always save your work as a CS6 file (.psd for Photoshop; .ai for Illustrator; indd for InDesign). Work in in RGB mode on the monitor and when completed convert a copy (saved as a separate copy or exported) to a .jpg (or .pdf when working in InDesign) and email the copy to me at k.hanger@miami.edu. (The emailed copy informs me your project is ready for grade evaluation [and CS6 files seldom fit through UM mail].) You must, however, also preserve the original CS6 file (not CS5 or 6.5) in your private folder on the student server so that I can view the layers/paths/and other original work intact if needed. Back up both files on your own portable USB drive.

Naming your files: When you name your files you are expected to name them with your first initial and last name, the assignment name, and date or I cannot be responsible for identifying them as yours and assuring you receive your earned grade. This is the proper format:

For Printing: If you wish to print a copy (or are asked to print a copy for critique in class) first convert your CS file to CMYK mode, make color adjustments, and save the resulting copy as a tif at 240-300 dpi. Print from the tif.
