2 INDESIGN INTRODUCTORY ASSIGNMENTS
For the week of November 15
Exercise 1. COMPLETE THE IN-CLASS Print TUTORIAL (Sample Magazine Spread)
Begin by watching the first 5 videos from the Learning Module at the Adobe TV link
(http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-indesign-cs5/)
Then...go to the tutorial link at http://vishaldawda.wordpress.com/2009/08/24/magazine-design-tutorial/ and complete all 3 parts. (We will work on this in class this week.) This 3-part tutorial will take you through the step by step process of creating a sample magazine spread.)
Hint: It helps to print out the tutorial or apply the readability toolbar at http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/ to economize on your desk space real estate when working in software while following print tutorials. (You can also print out a PDF version available on the 109 #8 server.)
(This exercise is DUE no later than the beginning of class this coming Monday Nov. 22. Credit for this exercise is pass/fail.)
Exercise 2. INCORPORATE ARTWORK INTO A SIMPLE LAYOUT WITH TEXT
Take a piece of artwork previously done for this class for any other assignment and add simple text to it (one word, a headline, a slogan, or a quote) to give the image new or deeper (symbolic) meaning.
This exercise is DUE by the end of class this Wednesday, Nov. 17. (Or email to me by Friday).
Credit is pass/fail but if you tweak your image to make it something appropriate to enter in the Mechanomorphic student competition by the end of the day on Wednesday, you will earn 2 points extra credit on your final grade!
What's Next: You should be gathering your magazine of choice (with at least 3 articles you can access in print) to start working on assignment #8 by bringing it and a ruler to class. Parchment or tracing paper is also useful. AND YOUR SKETCHBOOK.
